Guest Engineer - Xylem
Today we had Mr. Mau come in as a guest speaker from Xylem. Xylem is a company that "solves water", meaning they administer technology and equipment, allowing us to use water in the quantities we do. Mr. Mau informed us on what he and his colleagues do everyday. He brought in some pieces of a motor, explaining how each prototype was created and what they were used for. The prototype parts were all made of stainless steel as a defense against rust. Towards the end of class, we participated in an activity where we had to follow Mr. Mau's design process and analyse a catapult. This activity gave us a good idea of what it would be like to work as an actual engineer. I personally really enjoyed the activity... My team took first place at the end of the mini competition.
